This: Little is known about this game, but it is said that it will be different from the prevois games, featuring elements never before seen in the series. The game will be released this summer in Japan. From what I can see, they're expanding to more weapon types. There's the Japamese blade naginata (good against swords and seem to replace lances in this game) and the katana (good against... bows, for some reason, which still cannot fight back). There's alsoice magic, which I guess may not be categorised as wind this time. And the visual style definitely feels new, even though it's still Yusuke Kozaki's drawing. Shin Kibayashi, of Kindaichi fame, writes the story. I get the feeling that that blue-haired girl will be hated by some. She looks like a Micaiah clone or something.

That's actually the first thing I thought when I saw the video, lol.
Well, let's see if that game will make me come back in the world of FE. We know so little about it, but I still get the feeling it will be visually similar to FE13 through and through, which I really hope not. But we can hope!

LOL, but I was thinking along these lines A cross between Micaiah and Selvaria Bles. Of couse, she looks around...70%? less agressive, LOL. *SPOILERS FOR VALKYRIA CHRONICLES BELOW*
I'm also guessing she may either be 1) a dancer, which would mean this is the first time a Fire Emblem starred a dancer unit, or 2) a dancer hybrid character, or 3) a unit who's interests include dancing. Ice as a separate element is interesting and can be odd to adjust to at the same time. I mean...Fire Emblem has more elements in the characters' affinities (earth, heaven, etc.) than in its actual magic arsenal. Well, FE usually has the fire-wind-thunder magic as opposed to the more common?/seemingly standardized fire-wind-water-earth. So I suppose this is Fire Emblem: the Asia-inspired version? XD (Please tell me I can borrow my friend's 3DS to play this XD)

Personally, I'm pretty thrilled about this game. I'm getting used to Kozaki's art, and I'm interested to see how a new (and famous) storywriter would turn the new game into. Hopefully nothing as corny and generic as Awakening.
I think this game may run on an east-meets-west theme. Some characters do look fantasy-European, and we now have three eastern weapon types: katana (sword equivalent), naginata (lance) and kanabo (axe). Some Serenes Forest members compare the dancer to Ninian, and some draw theories on how this story may have to do with Elibe. And there are already people who want to do away with the game because of that, with others noting that in practice, Ylisse looks nothing like Archanea, so even if this game has ties with Elibe, it may not have that much impact.
On a less serious note, some praised the game for the unit models having proper feet. My favourite graphical element so far is the map-to-battle transistion.

Weapon rank remains in this game. It's the usage limit that's gone.
I don't mind to see it go myself. Recent Fire Emblem games have a tendency to be really hard at higher difficulties, so, say, the ability to use Brave weapons without worries is most welcome. Though I suspect this would only mean enemies would also get much stronger to accomodate this.
I've seen news going here and there, but there isn't anything I would comment on yet. With the game out in just a little more than one month (in Japan), I'll just wait and see.

Less than one month...I'll be looking forward to your review XD I suppose that's true. I thought that Brave weapons were always like a last resort. I don't remember being disappointed, but maybe I could have been pushing myself to just finish hard mode that one time I did it. It's been a while so I don't remember. Anyhow, I wonder how it'll affect the usage of money since you don't need to stock up anymore.

So now we have news that there's a My Castle feature, which is basically an interactive base for conversations and battle preparations. I'm not sure about those fanservice-y parts (one feature looks just like Pokémon-amie, but with your allies), but it's still an improvement over other bases/preparations in the past games. You can customise the place with shops, visit other StreetPass teams and buy stuff from their castles, and even fight them using the customized castle as the map itself, complete with destructable terrains (destroyed buildings will come back after the battle, it seems).
I'm more interested in certain traditional roles being broken, though. Pegasus units are no longer locked to females (they're locked to Hoshido, though) and can wield bows, axe fighters are no longer male exclusive, and there's now an infantry class that uses all of swords, lances and axes (can be promoted from myrmidons).
I'm not a fan of some of those character designs, seeing that while they're a departure from Awakening at a glance, some criticism towards Awakening still applies: outfits that are too revealing, armours that don't make sense... Still, they are better than Awakening...

I got the game!
Fire Emblem if Special Edition
This game came out early. Shops in Hong Kong sold it early, and there are reports that some Chinese fans are stocking up the game for speculative purpose. I'm gonna play Nohr first. This is so exciting!

So is the special edition the one where you can choose all three routes?

Yeah. The third route will be available for download in mid-July, although some have already hacked the game and played through it.

So I've already agreed with my only guy friend (who is a FE fan) to buy the Hoshido side. He'll be buying the Nohr side Hopefully, it'll come at a reasonable price =p

I can't even decide what side to pick. I was kind of leaning towards Nohr at first but now I don't even know. But I also promsied myself I would beat the GBA ones before getting another game I don't have time to finish so I have time to decide.

Same here! I was deciding to get one side by basing on the colour I like best. It's probably not the best idea...

I'm leaning on Nohr because for some reason, militarized countries are super interesting to me right now, like Daein in PoR. I know they're supposed to be the 'evil' country but wow, I really like Daein right now and Nohr would kind of be the Daein of Fates? But then Hoshido goes and has pretty cool characters too.

Has anyone heard about the whole changed conversation topic between two assassin characters? So now FE is getting more attention (for the wrong reasons T_T) imo.

...
Awful story aside, this is still a good game. A Fire Emblem that actually has some slight semblance to game balance! Who'd have known?
I'm not a fan of Nintendo of America lately. Starting from a few years ago, I swore off localised games and would play only Japanese versions.

Woot! Which version are you getting, Dubbie? I might get Birthright, regardless of not having the console to play it XD I see it as YouTube Ads pretty frequently.

Good luck. I hope it doesn't get sold out too soon.
And this is better than the Japanese version, which gets all three versions, the artbook and Cipher cards for... Marth and Lucina, for some reason.
