Starlight's translation of the Gungnir: Inferno of the Demon Lance and War of Heroes artbook, taken from the old forum.
I have no idea why I chose to post this but meh~ ^^' It can't hurt and it's a nice break from anything that is remotely related to serious research
I've been currently translating character descriptions from the artbook to Gungnir:Inferno of the Demon Lance and War of Heroes that I own from Japanese to English in my spare time. Mostly for personal curiosity and partially because I didn't want my less-than-one year [approx. 4 months?] spent on learning the langauge going to waste. With my elementary knowledge in reading Japanese and not knowing slang and various particles, I'm surprised I was able to get through quite a bit. I can't confirm for certain how accurately I can translate since I'm not fluent in the slightest XD
I am not very organized person pnd this was what I worked with in terms of the categories. Did most of this stuff on Notepad =p
For example...taking the main character's appearance, this is what I have. **and yesh, it's super messy**
*SPOILER warning*
My computer's monitor died for about a week (and it's still dead), so I couldn't show up here. I returned to see... just one new post? I'm surprised, even for a silent forum like this.
Anyway, it took me a bit to read through your post.
A few things to say about the language:
Kun reading - Kanji by itself (w/ Hiragana)
On reading* - in combination with other Kanji
You'll run into many exceptions.
B)Physical Appearance (2 Kan.=[Youshi])
"様子" is pronounced "ようす".
trans:3 Kan.=[Ichininjyou]+
3 Kan. =[Nininjyou]
Should be "いちにんしょう" and "ににんしょう". You don't have to put dakuten in these occasions.
truth;reality 1 Kan.=[Jitsu OR Jichi])
It's "じつ".
"yori"(?)
"より" means "in comparison". "実年齢よりは~" means "Compared to the actual age", or "... for their age".
"bite"
Not a word.
"matsu"="to possess"
"持つ" is pronounced "もつ". "待つ" means "to wait". They have different radicals.
I can imagine that it took you a while to figure it out. Nice work.
By the way, consider enabling Japanese input in your OS. (In Windows, go to Control Panel and choose "Language".) This way, you can try inputting kana and see what kanji do they correspond to. You can also call out the IME Pad, write the kanji you want to know about, and hover your mouse cursor over the candidate characters. This will give out those characters' kun'yomi and on'yomi.
Thanks for the tips, Nox. (I think people are crazy busy with assignments and life =p).
I agree with the first comment, simply because I don't have as much experience. It's still a decent place to start...when all I see are a bunch of Kanji characters plus the odd string of hiragana. How am I to separate particle markers from that jumble? And so much slang...I would have way more exposure to properly do this, but it's fine as it is. It's for my personal use = for fanart/fanfic purposes and understanding the generalities of this particular game world LOL. I wouldn't want to try reading the descriptions from the Knights of Iris artbook for FE:A though. I'd be very scared... @_@
For the last one, it was my misreading and mistranslation of the hiragana symbols. I'm still rusty since it's been three years since I've put my reading to "decent" use. Motsu is more commonly used with character descriptions (to possess character traits like kindness, etc.) I tend to write Japanese words in hiragana between quotation marks, and I'll have to figure out how to enable Japanese input someway, since I'm translating from an external source (a book) ^^'
So the verb "to speak" in masu (polite) form = "Hanshimasu". I'm not advanced enough to know which meaning will coincide with the Kanji.
I'm afraid you might have to elaborate on the dakuten part. I've lost you.
Physical appearance - the Kanji I see on the Artbook is not the same as the one you have here. I may have to recheck whether I've misread the Hiragana pronunciation again...
It's this: "容姿"
I'm also afraid if I put what I have, it will be very messy and difficult to read. I also chose to tackle some of the spoiler-filled characters first XD. There's so much information to tackle that I chose to leave out the first category (Character setting) till the very end. It takes me forever to decode what should be to a native speaker, one simple sentence. I've only barely finished three characters anyway :hector:
Huh. And here I thought Knight of Iris does not contain enough text to really explain the design behind the many things in the game. It's mostly art and in-game text.
It's a good start. I can't really offer any tip for Japanese users at your level though, since I have the inherent advantage of being a native Cantonese speaker (which really helps learning Japanese).
How to enable Japanese input depends on the OS you're running. On Windows 2000 and XP, enable Advanced Text Services first. Then (in all versions of Windows 2000 and later) go to Control Panel --> Region and Language (simply "Language" in Windows 8), and find your way to the Change keyboards option (ignore this step in Windows 8). Add input methods as you see fit. If you're using something else (Mac OS X, Linux, BSD or others), go look for the solution online. It should be easy.
What does that mean? If it's about looking up the word, you'll need to search for it in its dictionary form. Entering "話す" will get you the meaning of the word, as welll as being the kun-yomi of the kanji (as a verb). This kanji also means "speech" or "story" (as "はなし"), but it's not that difficult to determine from the context.
In somecases, when reading multiple parts of a compound word, the non-initial words may have a dakuten adde. We say "ひと" (person) alone but "むらびと" (village person, villager) as a compound word. See Wikipedia's explanation on the matter.
My fault on this one. Mixed this up with a different language. "様子" means "condition" in Japanese.
Japanese is complicated for those who're used to most other languages. I'll probably be just as lost if shown anything in, say, Cyrillic script.
I was only guessing at how much description the Knights of Iris book is. I suppose it all depends on how detailed it was written to be. I was of the assumption that with FE:A's cast of many characters (20+) it would be a pain...to read...XD I thought this artbook would be more of a 1:1 ratio of artwork to text, but it's more like a 1:3 ratio because it includes a summary of the plot per stage, additional notes of characters that barely had any screen time or vaguely mentioned in name *cough*, terminology, and an interview at the end. I was hoping for more artwork and less in-game pictures~ The book does dive a little into the stage/map designs and has notes scribbled so finely that I might consider using a magnifier to read the print if I'm nuts enough...*the two stages I'm mainly interested in are Scared Forest map and the
I'll need to find some way to at least enable hiragana...and this is why I shouldn't have quit Cantonese school so early, lol. I thought it'd be useless to me, but nope, I forgotten how many restaurants in Toronto only have special deals written in Chinese characters, haha~
Hmm, I'm only familar with past tense, te-form (to some extent), masu-from...It gets more confusing because some of the verbs don't always use Kanji but are purely written with hiragana. (How am I to know whether there's a particle embedded somewhere? :soren: ) I guess I'm just learning on the fly - particularly with newer particles I've haven't seen like this one: には. Its the verbs that have mutliple meanings that I get confused...
For kicks, I might post some character descriptions up, even though there will be spoilers and they can't be avoid as part of the character's description - Artbooks always tell more than the games do XD. I've only translated 1/2 of the description since the book divides character background (Where they lived, birth date, their ethnicity, class, age, etc.) from character description (the many categories I translated, including likes, dislikes, etc.) I'm really curious want to know how well I did XD
Do you already have Japanese input installed, and just don't know how to switch to hiragana mode? For most versions of Japanese input method, it's right there in the Language Bar (or whatever non-Windows equivalent it is called). One of those buttons should ask if you're entering alphabet, hiragana or katakana.
My advice is that you should keep playing JRPGs. PlayStation systems don't have region lock, so just go ahead and import Japanese games. You'll get confused at first, but you should start getting the hang of it in a few playthroughs.
Detecting particles is pretty much up to experience. YoucanreadthissentenceevenifIdon'tputanyspacesinit, right?
には is literally just に and は combined. A literal way to interpret it would be "In~, it's..." or "With~, it's..." Wiktionary translates it to "As for".
And yeah, some verbs can get confusing, since some of them don't correspond to anything in any other language. Just keep reading.
I don't think spoiler is an issue here. Does anyone besides you play Gungnir here?
...Though speaking of that, do you play any other Sting games? I remember playing Riviera a long time ago. I didn't get anywhere far into that.
I think I figured it out...? I needed the Microsoft IME along with the Japanese Language Keyboard? I'll see how it goes. It seems okay.
Any games that use simple language? I happen to 1) read at a snail's pace and I haven't memorized much Kanji if at all (numbers don't count, my Chinese elementary basics have not left me entirely)~ I do own a PSP now so it might help?...and then there's the cost of importing. I was looking into playing Tales of Phantasia since I hear that's relatively easy compared to the later Tales games like Symphonia...and Ys I and II Chronicles. I would prefer something more simpler if possible tbh. My limited ability to read hiragana and this: jisho.org/ has helped me thus far ^^'.
It still takes me a while to figure out which radicals combine to make the words I'm looking for. Experience, huh? Oh boy...@_@
I've become pretty biased towards some particular characters and couples and it's gotten worse thanks to my translation project...so I'm hesitant to push my views on other people. XD I'll still put up spoiler tags out of courtesy.
Possibly not. That being said, it's not going to appeal to a wide audience unlike FE for a number of reasons. So yeah, it's not for everyone :soren:
Checked the ratings and it's Cero B, but the English version is rated T. *Though to be fair, the storyline does have some dark implications for what will be future canon...
The only thing I wished that this game had was the wonderful FE tradition of using "you dastard" and using consistent spelling for last names (As cool as "Brighid" looks as text, the offical last name for Valerie is "Brigid". And other random things I get picky about...) = rushed editing XD
Gungnir is the only Sting game that I've played in English. I did look into Yggdra Union (I find the gameplay rather repetitive at first impression), Knights in the Nightmare, and Riviera, but I don't own any of them. I might try Riviera or KntN sometime in the future.
This might take quite a while between posts. I also want to add that the only terms that are 100% are very short sentences or words so...um, yeah, have fun.~ I also tend to paraphrase, so any information that isn't explicit (like names, for instance) will possibly end up being awkward and not completely accurate. *When there are errors in my translations, let me know.* ^^'
Fyi: I will be posting the translation for the original names but include the localized names to avoid confusion...*because name changes are fun...*
Starting with the main protagonist. I will only focus on character background information for one character at a time, then move my way towards every other category... Since there are around fourteen to sixteen characters in Gungnir that have a profile on the game's website, I'll limit myself to those from the younger generation for the time being (for this game, any person below 30 years of age and is human is a part of this category).
キャラクタ一設定 = The literal translation is character setting. I just call it background information*
Character Name: ジュリ ラグゥエル = Julio Raguel. The localization uses "Giulio" in "Julio's" stead.
本編主人公。スラムに生まれ、スラムで育った少年。
Giulio is the main protagonist of the story. He was born and raised in the slums all his life.
真っ直ぐで明るい容姿好青年。仲間や身内いうった目に映る人々のことを第一に考える。
Giulio is a frank and honest person who thinks in a straightfoward manner. He tends to adopt the beliefs and values of those who are very close to him, such as the other members of Esperanza and his family members without thinking about why they believe in them.
一方で、幼い頃から反政府運動に身を投じてきたたの、ためらいなく人を殺害できる残忍さを秘めている。
At the same time, Giulio, being a part of the resistance movement since birth, is capable of killing others brutally in spite of the fact that he is also a sensitive person.
Random unit facts:
Giulio is 15 years old at the start of this game (year 983 of the Gargan calendar *in-game*/799 of the Astral calendar *in Artbook)
His unit is "Fencer" (which in FE terms, is basically the equivalent myrmidon/swordsmaster class) with the added magical weapon of Gungnir, the demon lance.
*Since stats are determined by equipment, Def and Res tend to fluctuate. Spd in this game would not apply to attacking but to how short the "individual wait time" and "group wait time" wil be (or how often you can use your unit would risking the loss of maximum HP by a certain %.)
Whew...that was stressful =p
容姿 = Physical Appearance
175cm程度を平気的身長。細身だが、しっかりtおした、しなやかな貫肉をもつ。実年齢よりは、少し大人ひて見える。左胸に先手性の大きな痕(何かに貫かれたよな傷跡)をもつ。
What I translated above in the first (albeit messy) post. The bracket section refers to the appearance of Giulio's wound (it looks like a large stab wound on the left side of his chest).
社会的地位 = Social/Political Standing *Standing can be interpreted as status (i.e.:as a proletarian, noble, etc.)
反政府組織「エスパランザ」の一員。= Giulio is a member of the resistance movement known as "Esperanza".
*The first five characters prior to the bracketed term "Esperanza" are literally read as "anti-government organization"*
一人称・二人称・口調 = First Person-Second Person/Manner of Speech*I don't know how to indicate "/" this when I switch to writing in Japanese =p.
僕・君・背伸び気味な子ども。 = Giulio tends to use "boku" (the...um...younger way of referring to himself?) and "kimi" when he refers to other people. He give off the impression of a kid who's trying to push himself to the limit.
*I'm not so sure if that's how I should read this sentence. It's either the main character attempts to push himself or the main character has to stand on his tiptoes to get everyone else's attention when he's in a crowd XD*
I'll finish the rest later~ Good night
I'm really busy right now, so I don't really have time to read this.
I'll get to the rest later, but for now, a few comments:
- I don't really have any particular RPG in mind. For non-RPGs and RPG variants (ARPG, SRPG, dengeon crawler, etc):
-- I recommend playing FE12 untranslated (keep in mind that DSi and 3DS are region-locked; you'll need to get the original DS to play it, or an emulator if that's your thing, but I've never tried those)
-- or get Cave Story (for playing classic Japanese games on Windows without encoding issues, search "AppLocale" or "Change system locale")
-- Or anything else, really. Ace Attroney (they had a 1~3 compilation announced for 3DS recently), Professor Layton or Project X Zone if you want something more text0heavy, or just get any of the Ys games on PSP for a less text-oriented experience (I'd get one of their games if they ever come out on 3DS). These are not too wordy, yet have stories that are interesting enough. Not sure about the recent hit games (like Etrian Odyssey IV and Bravel Default/Bravely Second) in terms of language, though.
- For informal to outright rude Japanese internet vernacular, you may also want to venture to the depths of Niconico. 2ch's not recommended, unless you're into porn ads, lies, flame wars and the occasional off-topic political posts. Other online communities are more polite.
- A dot in Japanese is kind of like a universal separator. They use it to separate items or foreign names. If you want to get the usual slash, just pick it from the candidate word list (down arrow key on keyboard if you're using Microsoft's IME).
- "Boku" is a humble, masculine version of first-person pronoun. You don't have to be young (Shigeru Miyamoto uses that pronoun too). "Kimi" is a slightly casual second-person pronoun.
Thanks for the tips (Nope, I know better than to go to 2ch. It's pretty much what Youtube can become, or what some forum posts can break down into...I don't have a DS or a 3DS though =p
Thanks for correcting me on the usage of "Boku"
I don't have much time to update this yet,but will soon.
Got around to read your stuff, but I don't really have anything to add. Looking forward to more.
No problem~ So here's some of the more "random" stuff.I hope I somewhat undertood the gist of the more complicated sentences... I will also start adding some notes inside these brackets {}. The notes are based on implications or facts that come directly/indirectly from the game (that I know of).
好き = Likes
姉.フィオナと彼女の作る料り。特に燻製。肴は好きだが酒は飲まない。
Giulio loves his sister Fiona and anything she cooks in the kitchen. He especially loves to eat smoked meat. Giulio is also fond of appetizers and snacks but doesn't drink alcohol.
義兄のラグナスに対しては憧れに近い感情を持ち、パウロは父親のように慕っている。
Giulio also greatly admires his adopted older brother Ragnus and wants to be emotionally close to him. He also respects Paulo as his surrogate father although he misses his own father dearly. {Giulio has never met his father Ricardo in-person.}
嫌い = Dislikes/Hates
ガルガンデイア帝国で、パウロの長い説教。
Giulio hates Gargania/the Gargan Empire and Paulo's long-winded lectures. {A more literal translation of ガルガンデイア would be "Gargandia". The "Gargan Empire" or "Gargania" is used interchangeably in the English translation and can refer to a few things - the country where the characters live in, the Daltans in a general sense, and the Daltans who support the monarchy and swear loyalty to the current emperor. Giulio, being Leonican, and 15 years old, initally equates the Gargan Empire with the second meaning.}
Moving on...tbh, I'm unsure about the translations I'll post here. So don't take my word for it (...at least not yet, anyway~)
性格 = Personality/Disposition
真っ直ぐで明るい性格の青年。仲間や身内といった目に映る人々のことを第一に考える優しさを持つ。
Giulio is a straightforward and honest youth who is characterized by his cheerfulness and optimism. He echos the viewpoints and opinions of those closest to him and is fairly considerate towards other people, given his gentle nature.
*As one can tell if they've read this post from top to bottom, sometimes the personality section doesn't always add to the character background. However, it depends on the character that is being focused on. Some information found in this section can differ from what is revealed the character background {as weird as that is...}*
Next up: Strengths and Weaknesses.
In case you're wondering about my non-reply, I've actually read your posts, but I don't have anything to add. Your translation/interpretation so far is correct.
長所 - Strengths/Virtues/Quirks...{you name it}
天才的な戦いの能力を持つ。父親譲りの槍の腕は一級品。
Guilio is naturally gifted at fighting. He has inherited his father's aptitude
in mastering weapons {swords?} that may be difficult to wield.
The character for "weapon" can also be read as lance, spear,
grip of a bow...but since the MC isn't trained formally with lances but with swords, I'll go with this for now...
感情もコントロ一ルできる(と本人は思い込んでいる)ため、
ためらいなく標的を殺害できる。
He can control his own emotions {to a certain extent} and can still go through with
what he intends to do in spite of the circumstances.
His hesitation to cry {or show his personal feelings openly} is evidence
that he is mentally prepared to kill other people once he decides that it is necessary.
Note: I'm not certain that these translations are interpreted 100% correctly, but this is
more or less what I came up with. I'm sure it could be worded better XD
短所 -Flaws/Weaknesses
思考・行動共に直線的で、思い込みが激しい傾向にある。
Guilio's way of thinking and behaviour is straightforward
that it also affects him when he starts showing violent behaviour.
(I personally interpret it like this: he sees things as either black and white.
Candor faction, anyone?...Divergent reference, couldn't help it. =p
Something like betrayal would cause him
to lose all trust and respect in the betrayer..)
戦いの日々を送っているものの、主義・思想的には薄いたの、
深く突っ込みまれると答えられない。
Even though Guilio has personal experience loss in the war and the suffering of the
Leonicans, his solutions to the suffering of his people are founded on his biased understanding
of the situation and his assumption that
(It's pretty much the complete opposite of his father's original intentions as it'll get,
judging from how the other male members of his family react or have reacted to the same issue.)
In most cases, yari refers exclusively to lances/spears.
思考・行動共に直線的で、思い込みが激しい傾向にある。
Both his ways of thinking and actions are straightforward, and had a strong tendency to let his thoughts affect him.
I'm assuming the other lines aren't really translations, seeing that they don't resemble the originals.
1) Hmm, if "yari" refers exclusively to lances/spears, then I suppose it implies is that Guilio directly inherited the ability to wield the demon lance Gungnir from
2) Thank you very much for the alternative translation and corrections. Figuring out what particles to to what sections of the sentences is one thing. Wording is something else =p
3) Yeah...my opinions about characters and the game's plot are starting to sneak in *unfortunately*. I'm putting them in brackets, but I will understand if I won't be taken seriously from now on XD :kent:
Here is the last section:
求めるもの - Wishes/Wants/Desires/Goals
エスパダー貧民地区の中では北較的恵まれた生活を送っているが、
生い立ち故に友人がいないため、他者との繋がりを常に欲している。
The citizens of Espada are living in poverty in comparison
to the rest of the Gargania's populace. They find the concept
of true friendship as something that is either non-existent or near impossible to find. As a result,
those who live in the slums yearn to form real connections and relate to other people on a deeper level.
本人はまだ「友の存在」すら知らないたの、アリッサとの出会いがこの欲求を刺激することにある。
Guilio has never had a true friend before. However, meeting Alissa has opened him up to the desire of seeking true friendship.
My opinions (for the randomly curious)
(I can't believe this is techically 50% of the character's biographical information. That took alot out of me, XD...go amateur Japanese skills =p)
Next character up: Alissa~
My goal to post all six characters by June 6th. (LOL - bonne chance à moi. I am still in the process of translating, 95% done)
Character Name: アレサンドラ・ドラクロア (アリッサ)- "Alissa"
Fun Facts:
Other than that she is main love interest of Giulio, Alissa is a year older than Giulio
She can wield both lances and wands. In Fire Emblem terms...hmm, I would put it this way. She would be a merge of a soldier and a priest w/mage abilities...except Fire Emblem mages don't have to worry about area of effect and casting time. Also with the right equipment, Alissa ends up being the fastest playable caster in the game.
Character Setting:
ガルガンデア帝国で、皇族家の血を引くとされる女性。
唯一の皇位継承者でもある。近騎士であるナタリアと筆頭騎士ロベルトウスの
影響を強く受けており、左派奇りの思想を持つ。
父・ヴオフガング三世の人種差別政策には反対の立場。
Alissa is a female descendant of the Imperial family of Gargania* and
the sole successor to the throne. She is warmly recieved by the
public largely due to the influence of the Imperial knight Natalia and
Sir Robertus, the leader of the Imperial Knights. Alissa, being the
daughter of King Wolfgang III - who is anti-Leonican,
oddly supports more left-leaning
ideals and opposes her father's national policies, which are racist.
*Localized name for the Empire of Gargandia.
Physical Appearance:
大人しそうな女子。
Alissa is young teenage girl who thinks like an adult.
Social/Political Standing
現皇帝・ヴオフガング三世の一人娘となれている。
ただし、まれて間もなく幽閑され表舞台に出たことががいため、
顔・名前ともに公にはなっていない。
Alissa is the only daughter of the current emperor Wolfgang III,
a fact that she herself is getting used to. However, she was born
and raised in seclusion outside of the public eye, so when her existence
was revealed to the public, it caused a rift.
Even though Alissa shares the same last name as the monarch himself, it doesn't
seem to directly affect the public's opinions of her.
**I have no idea how to phrase some of this, and it's possibly because I take dictionary translations of words
too literally. It does help, now that I've seen the word "empire" enough times to memorize how it's supposed to sound like =p
I have no idea why I chose to post this but meh~ ^^' It can't hurt and it's a nice break from anything that is remotely related to serious research

"bite"
Not a word.
"matsu"="to possess"

So the verb "to speak" in masu (polite) form = "Hanshimasu". I'm not advanced enough to know which meaning will coincide with the Kanji.
I'm afraid you might have to elaborate on the dakuten part. I've lost you.
In somecases, when reading multiple parts of a compound word, the non-initial words may have a dakuten adde. We say "ひと" (person) alone but "むらびと" (village person, villager) as a compound word. See Wikipedia's explanation on the matter.
Physical appearance - the Kanji I see on the Artbook is not the same as the one you have here. I may have to recheck whether I've misread the Hiragana pronunciation again...

My fault on this one. Mixed this up with a different language. "様子" means "condition" in Japanese.

Japanese is complicated for those who're used to most other languages. I'll probably be just as lost if shown anything in, say, Cyrillic script.
Huh. And here I thought Knight of Iris does not contain enough text to really explain the design behind the many things in the game. It's mostly art and in-game text.
I was hoping for more artwork and less in-game pictures~ The book does dive a little into the stage/map designs and has notes scribbled so finely that I might consider using a magnifier to read the print if I'm nuts enough...*the two stages I'm mainly interested in are Scared Forest map and the
{Spoiler}Gate to the Nifleheim map, which is marked in this game as ?

{Spoiler}like mercy killing and patricide...
容姿 = Physical Appearance
好き = Likes
Giulio also greatly admires his adopted older brother Ragnus and wants to be emotionally close to him. He also respects Paulo as his surrogate father although he misses his own father dearly. {Giulio has never met his father Ricardo in-person.}
嫌い = Dislikes/Hates
ガルガンデイア帝国で、パウロの長い説教。
Giulio hates Gargania/the Gargan Empire and Paulo's long-winded lectures. {A more literal translation of ガルガンデイア would be "Gargandia". The "Gargan Empire" or "Gargania" is used interchangeably in the English translation and can refer to a few things - the country where the characters live in, the Daltans in a general sense, and the Daltans who support the monarchy and swear loyalty to the current emperor. Giulio, being Leonican, and 15 years old, initally equates the Gargan Empire with the second meaning.}
Moving on...tbh, I'm unsure about the translations I'll post here. So don't take my word for it (...at least not yet, anyway~)
性格 = Personality/Disposition
長所 - Strengths/Virtues/Quirks...{you name it}
天才的な戦いの能力を持つ。父親譲りの槍の腕は一級品。
Even though Guilio has personal experience loss in the war and the suffering of the
Leonicans, his solutions to the suffering of his people are founded on his biased understanding
of the situation and his assumption that
{Spoiler} nothing can be ultimately done to stop it.
(It's pretty much the complete opposite of his father's original intentions as it'll get,
judging from how the other male members of his family react or have reacted to the same issue.)
In most cases, yari refers exclusively to lances/spears.

Both his ways of thinking and actions are straightforward, and had a strong tendency to let his thoughts affect him.
I'm assuming the other lines aren't really translations, seeing that they don't resemble the originals.
In most cases, yari refers exclusively to lances/spears.

1) Hmm, if "yari" refers exclusively to lances/spears, then I suppose it implies is that Guilio directly inherited the ability to wield the demon lance Gungnir from
{Spoiler}his biological father, Ricardo Raguel.
I could be wrong though, but I think this makes sense and fits with the overall plot.~2) Thank you very much for the alternative translation and corrections.
{Spoiler}After reading all this, I'm actually shocked and sad for him. Are the game writers really telling me that Guilio did not completely trust Noah, Claude, and Teresa no matter how well he got along with them, and that his only true friends prior to Alissa = his siblings? That will explain alot about the main plot if the game actually gets completed. Also, that lance comment has got me thinking about the whereabouts of Gungnir when his father was alive. And where was Elise back then? Sleeping at the gate? =p No wonder Alissa's betrayal pushed him completely over the edge in the chaos ending...
{Spoiler}Her full name is Alesandra Dlacroa. *Delacroix is used in the localization instead of Dlacroa.*
Fun Facts:
Other than that she is main love interest of Giulio, Alissa is a year older than Giulio
{Spoiler}and the youngest of the Delacroix siblings, dead brothers included.
