...my N64!~ Good times I had with Banjo Kazooie. For some reason I was naive and though that the fifth level (Freezeezy Peak) was a breeze, only to almost die by falling from heights several times and being hit with evil snowballs. Meh...it happens when you stop playing a game for years =3 I didn't think it would be that big of a difference though XD
I also wonder how as a teenager I was able to complete the sequel and get all items. The worlds are so huge in Tooie, there were five warp points. This is probably a craziness I won't ever go through again from the beginning Xd

Oh my, Banjo Kazooie was an awesome game, it brings so many good memories of those old 3d platform games. Many of those Rare games in the N64 were good. My favorite gotta be Conker's Bad Fur Day, lol.
Right now, I'm playing Ace Attorney Investigations 2. Yes, the game that was never released in the West. Some people were kind enough to hack into the game and release a fully English patch for it. They even worked with the English Objection grunts for it and they did it pretty well!
And I can say so far the game is definitely better than the first AAI (I'm on the second case now), though it still has many cheesy moments, but that was to be expected, lol.

Oh gosh... the new prosecutor. It's funny how they ship him with younger!Klavier xD It's definitely worth playing! And it wraps things up nicely about Zheng-Fa, soooooo~ And Edgeworth's father. Can't forget about him. Anyways, I'm currently playing Project DIVA. I didn't really like the Vocaloids because of their choppy voices, but I really do like their songs. Some of them have so much meaning to it and I love rhythm games so... yeah. Just got over Kid Icarus too, haha. I have lots of other games to play, but barely touched because of real life...

Yeah I like the new Prosecutor, though he can be annoying at times (also what's up with Prosecutors in the AA world to always start before their 20s? and now that you mention it, he has the exact same age as Klavier!). But I really hate that Judge girl, for some reason. I can't explain why, though. Maybe it's the whole Goddess of Law thing that irks me a lot, lol. Buuut I'm only at the start of the Third case, so I might change my mind, lol. I guess next game I'll be getting will be the Phoenix Wright and Professor Layton game, which will be finally released on this continent.... on August 29th But at least we'll get it!

But I do feel sorry for him eventually. And well, she has her reasons, and it does challenge Edgeworth and separate him from the other Prosecutors as usual.
Anyways, I'm biased about this games because 1) It's Edgeworth. 2) I REEEEEEALLY love the interface of AAI games. And I do prefer it from the standard AA games. 3) THE MUSIC COMPOSER. They're different from the regular AA composers.
But yeah, have fun with the game!

Thanks, I've just finished the game and the game really went over my expectations. I've gained a new respect for Yamakazi (beside those awful silly cameos that happens from times to times). Though I can still see similar parts between that game and DD.
And I agree, the music was pretty awesome, and the main vilain is definitely golden.

I just got back into .Hack//Outbreak on the PS2...and I realize why I was exaperated with part of the game in the first game - apart from the grinding aspect of it. Two words: goblin tag. Those things take forever to hunt down!...and I'm dirt poor in this game. Why don't monsters drop money? =p

Incidentally, the composer for Ace Attorney Investigations is also the composer for Dual Destinies. Aside from the recomposed themes like Phoenix's and Apollo's.
I think you can YT any of the OST songs and enjoy it! Especially for AAI!

Oh godness, I used to play the .hack series. It's been a while though, so I pretty much forgot everything about it. Well, maybe except the grinding part, which was slow but surprisingly fast for a simulated MMORPG, lol.
If they ever do another AAI, which I doubt, I'd be pretty excited. And AAI2 has the same composer as DD? No wonder some tracks are pretty similar, lol. Is it also the same composer as the first AAI? Because I didn't really like the tracks of it :/
I'd post some stuff but I'm on my smartphone and I currently have no access to any PC ;_;

Elchi:: Yep, the composers are the same. It's funny because I enjoy most of the AAI OST as to AAI2. DD's soundtrack is really nice too.
Star:: Haha, it really gets your blood pumping! And it only sticks when you play the game!

Playing Tera Rising and also replaying FE6. I was also reading the FE6 manga which is a side story. Whilst reading it, I thought to myself "I'm pretty sure I read this....but why can't I remember?"
The manga isn't that great but I love the drawings, yeahhhhhh

Dubbie: How do you find FE6? I'm kind of nuts, tbh. I'm playing 英雄伝説:白きの魔女 (Legend of Heroes III: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch) on the PSP and I understand like ...1% of what's being said XD. I also finished Ys I & II Chronicles sometime ago and found the bump system super fun. (I died so many times on Easy mode, annndd got lost numerous times in the mirror maze sections...the whole layout of Darm Tower can get mildly confusing LOL)

Debs: LOL, I was reading Hasha no Tsurugi as well! The art is okay, but apparently the artist's art just deteriorates after the manga ends? He drew for the FE Anniversary fanbook and it's... well... not that well compared to the manga.
And yeah, he inserted the Gary Stu into the game, lol. Oh well.
Star: You can download the FE6 JP rom and google the patch. There are lots of tutorials on how to make it payable.
As for me, I just finshed Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright. Yeeeeep~

Certainly Mary-Sues were in it but I liked it. dubbie: I'm forcing myself to read more if I just stick with the Japanese version. Legend of Heroes is somewhat like Final Fantasy (in the sense that most entries are numbered), but since Bandai localized the Gagharv trilogy titles (III-V in Japan) out of order (as I-III in NA for PSP, swapping III and IV in the process), I decided to see how much I can follow bits of the main storyline, follow instructions and pick up on common expressions and verbs. I tend to play with Gamefaqs and the dictionary in case I get stuck, which has already happened to me a couple of times, haha. ... Aside from learning Korean when I go overseas, I might have time to pick up on my Japanese skills too, LOLThen there's Trails in the Sky FC (LoH VI: 空の奇跡 First Chapter) for PC, which I'm also playing on and off in English =p FE Anniversary Fanbook huh? Hmm..., I'll probably check it out sometime =0 Thanks for the tips, Vikki. I hear that FE6's last boss is kind of...easy with the right weapon? xD

FE6's final boss is the weakest final boss ever. Not only because it's quite easy to max out your units (especially in hard mode), but because this final boss has an attack range of 1. Most bosses have 1-2, 1-3 or even wide area attacks, but not this boss. It kind of makes sense, given the context.
I don't think I'll get to play anything new in the near future, but maybe I'll go back to some older games once my academic life's over in about a week.

I don't have a TV in my apartment and I don't have internet access, but I do have Steam on the laptop I brought with me to Changwon City. So I've been playing YS Origins. Embarrassed to say on " Very East". Very easy is deceptive to say the least. Ys games rely on pattern reading, reflexes and mobility, so I have no idea how I managed to take down so many bosses when I'm not always aware of where my mouse is, haha. Other than that, I might look for FE 6, as long my computer has room for it XD
Btw, playing as Yunica Tovah is super awesome. I haven't had so much fun with a melee character in a long time =3

Ah, Ys. I don't knowif I've said this before, but I once contemplated playing some game in the series. I don't have any systems in the PS family and I don't want to bother with Steam, and I was told that the DS version of Ys I+II wasn't done very well. A friend suggested me to get the Virtual Console version, but I'm never a fan of getting games that old.

A friend suggested me to get the Virtual Console version, but I'm never a fan of getting games that old. Lol, whatever floats your boat. I have thought about getting FE 4-8 so I can at least be informed/follow any discussion that might pop up. The longer I wait, the harder it might be to find the games. That's how I see it XD As for Ys series, I've been through or will be done: Ys I&II Chronicles (PC/PSP), Ys Origin (PC), Ys VI: Ark of Napishtim (PS2/PC), and Ys Seven (PSP). So that's probably why I'm going through it. The list is halfway done, pretty much ^^'. I have yet to play Oath in Felghana (Ys III for the PSP/PC), Memories of Celceta (Ys IV for Vita), and Ys V: Lost Kefin: Kingdom of Sand (PS2 - Jap. version). V and VI will most likely be remade as everything else has been revamped anyway. Ys I had a PSP 2009 remake, but honestly, I love the bump system and running into enemies after trying it out on Steam. It's way quicker than Zelda, but Zelda is fun too XD On the topic of older games, I find that some of the newer games are tweaked/alterations of old gameplay systems but when I compare some of the games I've seen when I was young and some of the games I play nowadays, I find some of the older games more fluid and well...less cinematic than the newer ones. Like when I played FE9/10 and looking back at my cousin's playthrough of Shining Force 3 (1998, I think?) I find the movement of SF III more fluid. You don't need the arrow to show where you will go becuse the unit moves in "real time" on the map. i'm not sure if I'm making sense but like in FE9, you need to click on the square to confirm where your unit will move next, then the action is completed. SF III doesn't have the arrow and you move with the control stick in the direction (which is defined by the movement of the unit, of course, along with terrain restrictions, etc.) so when you confirm, you are already on the spot you wanted to go. I do realize that I won't be able to play everything I want to because I tend to switch between MMORPGs and Console/PC games. The students at the school where I work still play Maple Story and Beyblades, believe it or not. So not everything that is old is obsolete - at least for me anyway XD My opinions of what series I want to play don't seem to align with those of other NA gamers, generally speaking. none of my friends know what Ys, Trails/Kiseki series, D.H.E or Fire Emblem is, so yeah *shrugs* Note: My friends have played Awakening, but they haven't played any other FE game, LOL. I think they are more familiar with games like Dragon Age, Batman: Arkham City, Tales of series, Final Fantasy etc. I hear that Ys Seven/Celceta have/will have Window versions in Chinese. If you are interested, you could give it a try. The DRM makes it rather unattractive though - the players who respond on the forums I go have mentioned it several times. Celceta was released in 2012, so that's the same year as Fire Emblem: Awakening. (I wonder if I can get FE games in Korea, do the gamers here just play Starcraft and various Korean PC games?)

If you compare across different series, of course it's going to be different. Fire Emblem in particular is designed to stay true to its root, so FE13 may not be all that different from FE3, for example, and the first two game definitely weren't smooth even if they are definitely old. You can say the same for most other series. Control schemes are part of the game systems, so it doesn't really make sense to change it; and RPGs are big on keeping traditions. I don't have many gamer friends to begin with, let alone people who play the same games. I do, however, run into people who play certain games in gaming forums even when said forums aren't dedicated to those games. I'm not familiar with the Korean gaming market. With systems like 3DS and Wii U, I think they just import games from the other regions, like Hong Kong and Taiwan do, ignoring their own local Nintendo branch (their lineup is decent for a small branch, but it's nothing compared to the Americas, Europe or Oceania). I'm not sure about that, though. I don't know about Sony's side, either, but I wouldn't imagine Koreans would like them that much (unlike in Europe). They seem to be more dedicated to PC games.

Yup~ I mean, for any person who comes across a new series they haven't played before, there's gotta be some things, whether it is parts of the gameplay and such they are looking for that makes the series appealing. I do understand keeping the control schemes familiar, but the way I think about tweaking gameplay is...well...kind of like how some of the fans of alternative music treat their bands. (Yes, I want the band to progress, but no! The style needs to be recognizable. So how do game companies balance between innovation and tradition?) Maybe fluid isn't the proper word for what I'm describing, but anyway, these differences I've noted aren't exactly what I consider as game breaking. I don't mind having the arrow there either, haha. (For the curious: Shining Force Series Wiki). Anyways, back to old games. I think old games have their merits (I still like the game Lemmings, believe it or not - I personally think it's fun XD) and since there are so many games out there, it's hard (read:almost impossible) to try everything out there so you have to be picky at some level (to save money and space =p). Also, older games do seem to take a much shorter time to complete. Games that are older are more likely to take a shorter amount time to complete (Super Mario for the NES, oh yeah~) than games nowadays, genre pending. If you don't want to play games you don't have on your console, that's fine. If you want to play old games and you find a way to, that's also fine. As long as you're having fun, it shouldn't be much of a problem.

Not related to the current discussion, here's my latest addiction: 突撃!隣の赤ずきん (Strike! Neighbouring Little Red) It's a fun RPG that parodies lots of different stuff. References range from One Piece and Planet of the Apes to, as the title suggests, Little Red Riding Hood. Little Red is completely out of character here. The ability to read Japanese is certainly needed to play this game, so I don't have anyone to actually recommend to. But it sure is fun, if a little bit grind-y.

No worries, I understand your opinion =) I'm too old and lazy to follow trends nowadays. (Maybe there are too many things to keep track of, lol) How much Japanese would one need to know (approximate what grade or level)? I feel that it's probably too difficult for me to understand, but I could give it a try just to practice reading hiragana so I can read it at a faster pace. I...regret starting Ys Origin on Normal difficulty with the hidden route (a.k.a the canon route.) I hope I won't have to restart the game because it's hard to move with a wireless mouse at the pace the character moves. I overshoot the bosses and die usually. Or I'll have to be creative with the arrow keys XD

Let's see. One would need to know a good amount of goroawase, for starters. Having intermediate kanji skill and a good vocabulary are also recommended for understanding most of the jokes. You can still play the game without such knowledge, but the funny text is part of what makes the game so interesting.
...You play Ys Origin with a mouse? I thought games like that would be purely keyboard-only...
|
|
|
Post by starlightmeteor on Nov 27, 2014 1:34:51 GMT
LOL~ Well, that sounds out of my league XD I guess I should work on LoH Gagharv trilogy. The most crucial part for me is the main storyline so I try my best to understand it. Battles are...um...trial and error. If I get lost/stuck? Thank goodness for Gamefaqs XD
As for Ys Origin, the English release allowed players to move using either the mouse or the keyboard. I stick with the keyboard since I kept on falling off the first boss. (To beat it, you have to attack it at ground level, then climb on its body to attack its head while dodging its attacks.) It's easier to navigate curves with the mouse...assuming you are used to the speed of the character.
{But...} I couldn't even do it with Yunica, who moves at medium speed. With the hidden character, my mouse is practically useless against bosses, plus I end up randomly triggering the slide move at times and slide off the boss' head. Oh dear =x

I finally finished Ys Origins. My lessons: Don't rely on the keyboard unless you have to, and don't play on Normal mode of any Ys game unless you are certain that you are adept with using all characters. Out of the three, I would say I had difficulty with {Movement?} ...controlling Toal Fact. He's like a greasy banana peel. If I misclick on the keyboard, I'll perform a sliding attack when I don't want to and his speed make manuvering hard to do. That being said, Toal vs. Hugo was such a stressful fight, but so worth it. Since pumped up Hugo is crazy. Your character as a NPC boss is always 20 times more powerful then when you get to control them, haha. Even more worth it was: "Do you even know who my father is?" comment to Zava. She clearly didn't even know who she was working for XD Oh, and being Cain Fact/Darm...was as frustrating as being Dalles. Dalles cheats by hovering past my reach.
Out of the three, I still like the canonic route, and after that is Yunica Tovah's. As for Hugo...it's his personality that gets to me. There are worse characters out there, but his is the least likeable to me.

Oh, and Kirby games these days are getting quite difficult. Woah...you have a Wii U already? I bought Valkyria Chronicles on Steam for $9.99 USD. So, yup, its a PS3 game ported to the PC. Fanservice really doesn't need to be there, but otherwise it's kind of like a RT-Fire Emblem with guns and tanks. I could probably be oversimplying it though =p When you move your units, you only have one time to aim and fire bullets, etc. at them - and yes, I'm in the early stages of the game so things could change XD. I'm having some trouble adjusting to the gameplay - I tend to forget which button does what. XD
